Michael J. Borman is Chief Executive Officer for Avocent Corporation, a leader in IT operations management solutions. He was named CEO by the Avocent Board of Directors on July 14, 2008 to lead the global growth initiatives for the company which had annual revenues of just over $600 million in 2007.
Prior to joining Avocent Borman held a variety of key roles at IBM where he was instrumental in realigning the IBM direct sales and support team to drive significant revenue, profit and market share gains for the company's dynamic software business. He most recently served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales for the IBM Software Group where he was responsible for annual revenues of over $15 billion and a sales force of over 15,000 people in 60 countries.
His previous leadership roles at IBM include General Manager of the i-Series and p-Series server product lines, where he launched initiatives that contributed to double-digit growth, as well as other executive positions in general management, including overseas assignments in Asia where he launched IBM's channel and distribution business in India and China.
Borman first joined IBM as a programmer in 1977 and held a variety of positions including Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Operations, Web Servers; Vice President, Small and Medium Business, North America; Director, Strategy for Asia Pacific and General Manager for Distribution and SMB for Asia Pacific. Borman also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Blue Martini Software, a leading independent software company and IBM business partner.
Borman holds a master's in business administration from the Kellogg School - Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois.
