WaMU
Larry Plett, Senior Vice President, manages the Technology Infrastructure Mainframe Services Group at WaMu. Larry is primarily responsible for all mainframe processing and related projects within the data center environments. A recent data center consolidation effort, led by Larry, streamlined the bank's five data center operations into two geographically dispersed locations. Further optimization of the environments included an upgrade of the mainframes to IBM z10 hardware. In addition, Larry has reduced the overall data center operations expense at WaMu by approximately $50M. During Larry's six years at WaMu he has demonstrated his commitment to best practices and providing outstanding leadership to WaMu's data center operations.
With more than 40 years experience in Information Technology, Larry has specialized in financial and customer information applications. His primary focus has been on identifying, developing and implementing mission critical, enterprise-wide application systems, leading both mainframe and client-server implementations.
Prior to joining Washington Mutual in 2002, Larry worked at several West Coast banks and Insurance Companies where he was responsible for IT functions. He has been in leadership roles accountable for directing the development of the technical architecture, data administration, and the design and development of support activities.
As part of these projects, he spent considerable time consulting on architectural issues and establishing the future direction of many initiatives. Larry has assisted a number of Financial Institutions in re-establishing direction for projects that were over budget with no firm deliverables established. He was responsible for identifying and evaluating what had been done, recommending new processes and providing a project plan with attainable deliverables and milestones.
